    My husband and I “manage” separate accounts, but we work towards the same goal if that makes sense. He manages the daily operations, variable costs, out of his accounts while I manage our mortgage. They work out to be pretty equal amounts, if we have extras after, we do put towards the mortgage payoff. He manages his own retirement/investment accounts, and I manage my own, but we do discuss a game plan at the beginning of every year. We do have bi-weekly discussions to review our budget and portfolio performance. We also consolidate all of our accounts on an aggregator so we both see OUR full picture with full transparency.

    The hair, makeup and brows are the things I just can't give up due to my hair style, but recently found a cheaper way. Instead of going to a fancy alone I started going to a freelancer who does hair in her house at a fraction of the cost. I just get brows threaded but its only £6 so its not a huge cost for me and I only go once every few weeks and tweeze in between. I used to get my nails done all the time but completely gave up, such a waste of money for sure. I used to also get coffee everyday, I wasn't able to completely give this up so I limited it to just 3 to 4 times a week max, but then home cook all my food. With makeup I just buy once or twice a year in the sales, before I used to buy tons and not use most of it

    I am from the UK as well, so this was super interesting. I have no debt either but also had similar issues with struggling between wants and needs. I have the same lifetime ISA which I am using for a house deposit, i have gotten a few thousands from the government so it is a great scheme. I plan on buying a house purchase, but have decided against the car and hence continue to drive my now 10 year old toyota, which was also my first car. i just pay buttloads in rent so can't afford to use money on a car

    I totally agree that in a relationship sharing the financial burden makes sense. My husband and I got married last year but we lived together for 6 years before that and shared expenses. After marriage, we have continued to work our finances similarly while combining certain elements. I strongly believe in financial independence, especially for women. It’s how my mom raised me. My dad is a medical doctor but my mother has always wanted her own money, even now in her 70s! Also about chipotle: the good thing about breaking our own financial rules from time to time is that it helps us remember why we made these rules in the first place, which is a kind of recommitment to our essential truth that is also valuable. Love your videos and content! ❤

    Back in 2022 when btc was at its cycle low, people where saying btc is done for it's going below $15k US it's going to zero. Well it's down 10% from mid March ath 2024 and now everyone is shitting themselves. That doesn't make any logical sense especially for crypto.Its just a shake out phase, chill people go zoom out at old charts. We are at around 1.4 trillion market cap and only growing, just wait and see the price next year in March it will double....I've been engaged in active trading and managed to grow a nest egg of around 2.3Bitcoin to a decent 24Bitcoin....I'm especially grateful to Evelyn Infurna, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.

    I agree about contributing to the mortgage, it's like paying rent and a lot of parents even charge their kids rent if they live with them as adults. I always kept my finances separate, while my parents have theirs all together. I suppose it's different with everyone but I would never want to have a joint account even with marriage.

    Love the casual money chat and would love to see more of it! Me and my husband have separate finances for the most part. We both work, and he sends me money and I make sure all bills are paid. As for day to day expenses we have our own budgets but will pay for stuff casually while not keeping track of every cent. It works for us but I agree being on the same page is important

    I really enjoyed the topics in this video! Your perspective on separate vs joint accounts was good. I've been married a long time and have had both joint and separate checking/savings accounts over the years. As a married couple, the most important thing is that there is communication about money, and this should really start before marriage. Some people are taught about money management growing up; others are not. And as you mentioned, disagreements about money can really become a problem in a relationship. I like having a joint account now. I manage all the finances for us, but we have established goals and trust each other, so there's no issue about my money vs his money. It's all our money. At the end of the day it's whatever works best for a couple as long as they are communicating well. But I agree on separate accounts if you're not married, and I think you're doing the right thing re: what you pay your boyfriend. Sorry this is so long. I really enjoy your channel!

    Great video, Leila. You're hitting it out of the part, video after video. The amount of creative energy is flowing so freely from you! Bravo! When does your non-compete expire? If you wanted to be a consultant as a contract with a customer in your own business structure, would you? Would you like to do that possibly? I've wondered about that. I know it's time consuming to acquire the skills you did with SFDC and I'd hate to see you never use them again, if you wanted to. 🙂

    Thanks for posting, Leila! I really needed to hear the part about money anxiety today specifically. This morning I logged into my retirement account and it said I had made a $35,000+ withdrawal this month, which I definitely did NOT do 😱😭 I immediately tried to call customer support, but Vanguard is closed until Monday. Until then, there’s nothing I can realistically do to investigate or fix the problem and I’m so stressed. However, instead of obsessing over things out of my control, I’m trying to focus on getting out of my head and improving my life in this moment. Yes, this kind of thing is incredibly stressful, but I have options like identity theft insurance and I’m sure Vanguard has insurance as well. It could also be a glitch on the website and totally fine tomorrow. So I don’t want to waste my whole day stressing out

    Especially on the relationship front, completely agree. At the end of the day, the way a couple, married or not, handles their money is based on what works for them. The caveate being that it's both people's responsibility to know what's going on financially as a couple. Love these chats!

    I feel like income is never enough, although lifestyle creep is a think. I remember I used to earn only 27K just out of uni, now that would be unthinkable. Although the main thing was my rent was 600 at the time in a cheap run down town... now I live in a big city, plus with inflation its over 1100, plus parking costs as well as increased car insurance because of car break ins being common in this city. My income is much much higher, but I feel like everything just costs way more as well and I still continue to use most of my income....

    Hey Leila, I have a question, when you put payroll and distribution in your disposable income for the month, can you use both to pay the bills or only the distribution part? I guess so but just to clarify, would it mean you pay some things from your business account and some from your personal?

    • @PersonalFinancewithLeila
      @PersonalFinancewithLeila 3 дня назад

      I can use both! Maybe payroll isn't the right word to use for that section, payroll above my personal spending are my actual paychecks for me as an employee, so I should just call it paychecks or something different. Hopefully that makes sense! I can spend directly on personal things from my business checking account but I never do that. It's only for business expenses, payroll, and distributions

    1) No HSA account? 2) So can we max out the Roth even before year's end? 3) Can we max out the SEP too to make use of the money in the investment account?

    • @PersonalFinancewithLeila
      @PersonalFinancewithLeila 4 дня назад

      1. I don't have an HSA. My plan through my previous employer didn't qualify and neither does my plan now. 2. Yes! You can max out your Roth IRA on the 1st of the year if you want to! As long as you have enough earned income for the year you are investing for. 3. For a SEP IRA you have to be careful because you can contribute up to 25% of your total compensation or a max of $69K for 2024, whichever is less. So you could end up contributing too much if you tried to do the full $69K. For the rest of 2024 I'll only be investing a couple hundred to my SEP each month. Hope that helps!
